Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with the Ambassador of Qatar
On 21 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Ambassador Ahmed Saif Saif Khalaf Al-Midhadi of Qatar, who resides in Warsaw.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister welcomed the facilitation of the issuance of visas to Lithuanian citizens. 30 day visas are now issued on arrival and may be extended. Linkevičius also reminded of an intention to sign an already-negotiated agreement on trade, economic and technical cooperation, and a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of bilateral political consultations.
The participants of the meeting agreed that cooperation could be intensified also by signing an agreement on promotion and protection of investment, and a double taxation avoidance agreement. Lithuania and Qatar are currently negotiating the two agreements.
Linkevičius and the Ambassador also discussed the 2017 Gulf crisis. On 6 June, several Arab countries and their allies cut ties with Qatar, and imposed an air, sea, and land blockade on this country.
