On 25-29 August 2015, Lithuania‘s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Raimonda Murmokaitė in her capacity as Chair of the UN sanctions committee for Central African Republic paid a visit to CAR. During the visit Ambassador Murmokaitė met with representatives of CAR Government, UN, business and non-governmental organizations. On 25 May 2015, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted resolution, drafted by Lithuania, on the protection of journalists in conflict zones. This resolution urges member-states to ensure accountability for crimes committed against journalists, media professionals and associated personnel working in conflict zones. The UN Security Council has for the first time recognized the role of free and independent media and right to seek, receive and disseminate information online as well as offline.

On 22 May 2015, the UN Security Council adopted resolution on small arms and light weapons negotiated by Lithuania. This resolution highlights the human cost of the proliferation of these weapons and emphasizes the need to protect civilians, particularly women, children and other vulnerable groups.

During the Lithuania presidency of the United Nations Security Council Minister for Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius chaired the Security Council debate on the promotion and strengthening of the rule of law and meeting on the UN cooperation with regional organizations.

The Security Council adopted a presidential statement acknowledging strategic partnership between the European Union and the UN.
