Diplomatic relations were established оn 9 July 1992.
From 1992 to 2004, Kazys Lozoraitis served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to the Holy See and the Order of Malta after the re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence.
From 1993 to 2006, dr. Peter Freiherr von Fürstenberg served as the first Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Lithuania.
