On 24 November in Washington, D.C., the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Ruth Sherman. The meeting focused on the alarming security challenges facing the region, Russia’s aggressive behaviour in the neighbourhood, the situation on the border with Belarus, as well as other issues of strategic partnership and further cooperation.

“The security situation in the region remains fragile. Russia amasses its troops along the Ukrainian borders, which raises tensions, while Belarus continues its hybrid attack against the European Union. This requires coordination and mobilisation of transatlantic partners more than ever before,” said Landsbergis.

Landsbergis thanked the U.S. for its support and close cooperation for addressing these challenges, ensuring the security of the Baltic region, strengthening the bilateral partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as for cooperation aimed to strengthen democracies, including the provision of support for civil society and human rights defenders in autocratic countries.
