In New York, L.Linkevičius meets with Foreign Ministers of the UAE, New Zealand and Malaysia
In the margins of the United Nations Security Council’s open debate on 23 February in New York, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius met with Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and New Zealand. They discussed important issues related to bilateral relations, economic cooperation development and international security issues.
The meeting with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Anwar Gargash welcomed intensifying bilateral relations and the recent visit to the UAE of a business delegation led by the Minister of Economy of Lithuania. They discussed the upcoming visit of the Lithuanian Prime Minister. During the meeting, the officials exchanged opinions on events in the Middle East region.
L.Linkevičius met with New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Murray McCully to discuss the upcoming visit of L.Linkevičius to this country on 19-20 March. During the visit, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister is expected to sign a working holiday agreement, which could pave the way for Lithuania’s youth to gain experience in New Zealand and for the country to open an Honorary Consulate in Oakland.
According to L.Linkevičius, during its second year in the United Nations Security Council, Lithuania was ready to share its experience with New Zealand, which took up these duties this year.
The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy also thanked New Zealand for its permanent support for Lithuania’s membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
During the meeting, L.Linkevičius met with head of Malaysian diplomatic service Anifah Aman to discuss a possibility to visit Malaysia at the end of August together with the Lithuanian business mission.
