Lithuania announces its contribution to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (statement)
Statement by the Republic of Lithuania
at the Pledging Session of the High Level Conference
of the Central Emergency Response Fund
Madamme Under-Secretary-General,
I would like to begin by thanking you and Mr. William Swing, Director General of the International Organization on Migration for providing us with the latest update on the CERF performance in 2011 as well as the five-year evaluation.
We note with satisfaction that during this year the CERF supported life-saving activities and played a major role in 43 countries. Diverse range of emergencies and support sectors demonstrates the CERF effectiveness and efficiency in promoting early action, enforcing time-critical requirements and strengthening core elements of humanitarian response in underfunded crises.
The five year evaluation also proves that the CERF has become one of the quickest funding mechanisms available to humanitarian agencies. We note with appreciation the CERF’s leadership, predictability and greater coverage of emergencies add value to the humanitarian system as a whole.
Lithuania notes with appreciation that the CERF is continuously expanding the community of its donors – governments as well as private sector.
I am pleased to announce that Lithuania has contributed 10000 USD to the CERF for 2012.
Thank you.
