LITHUANIA DEPOSITS THE INSTRUMENT OF ACCEPTANCE OF THE AMENDMENT OF THE UNECE WATER CONVENTION

On 28 March in New York, on behalf of Lithuania, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations Dalius Čekuolis deposited with the United Nations Secretary General the instrument of acceptance of the Amendment of the Article 25 and Article 26 of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (UNECE Water Convention).

The UNECE Water Convention promotes joint management and conservation of shared freshwater ecosystems in Europe and neighboring regions.

Its Amendment, adopted at Madrid on 28 November 2003, opens up UNECE Water Convention to non-UNECE Member States and allows any State that is a Member of the United Nations to accede to this Convention upon approval by the Meeting of Parties.
