LITHUANIAN MILITARY COME BACK AFTER DEPLOYMENT TO THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC
On May 8 military personnel of the Lithuanian Air Force will return to Lithuania from the multinational mission in the Central African Republic. From early April the contingent of 10 with the C-27J Spartan transport aircraft were providing support to the French-led operation Sangaris aimed at stabilizing the security situation in the Central African Republic, preventing violence and civilian casualties, and ensuring conditions for delivering humanitarian assistance to the country.
Lithuanian military were transporting equipment, ammunition and personnel for the needs of the operation from airports in the Centrals African Republic, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali over their month-long tour of duty. The Spartan carried out 54 flights over the duration of the deployment.
