Minister L. Linkevičius emphasizes importance of multilateralism in tackling global issues
On 26 September in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius spoke at the launch of the Alliance for Multilateralism hosted by France and Germany. Initiatives to increase multilateral efforts to achieve global goals, including those related to media freedom, climate change, cybersecurity, and women's rights, were presented during the event. "We cannot ignore violations of international law, aggression, and impunity. We must work together to strengthen multilateral cooperation," said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
L. Linkevičius also attended the annual ministerial meeting of the UN Group of Friends of Mediation. The theme of the meeting was “New technologies for peace and mediation as tools for inclusion.” The Foreign Minister drew attention to the challenges posed by disinformation, cyber-attacks, and hybrid threats to international mediation.
"Emerging technologies improve the mediation process, but we must not forget that cyber threats and information warfare also have consequences for these processes," said L. Linkevičius.
Lithuania joined the Group of Friends of Mediation in 2012.
