MINISTER LINAS LINKEVIČIUS VISITS UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK

On 25 March Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius kicked off the Lithuania's bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2014-2015. The Minister is on a working visit in New York where he is to meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Permanent Representatives of Members States to the UN, representatives of regional oganisations, UN officials, journalists.

The Minister is also to present priorities of the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the European Union and to discuss possible iniciatives that would strengthen the United Nations and European Union partnership.

Lithuania put forward its candidature to the UN Security Council back in 1996. It is the first time that the Baltic nation runs for this key body.
