NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION HELD IN NEW YORK
On 16 February the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the UN and the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York hosted the reception on the occasion of the Day of Re-establishment of the State. The reception was preceded by a piano recital by prof. Golda Vainberg-Tatz and a young Lithuanian talent Agnė Radzevičiūtė.
In his opening speech Amb. Dalius Čekuolis, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the UN, underlined the continuity of Lithuanian statehood and deep sense of responsibility that is constantly reminded by three dates: 16 February 1918 - the Day of Re-establishment of the State, 11 March 1990 - the Day of Restoration of Independence and 6 July 1253 - the King Mindaugas Coronation Day. Ambassador Čekuolis also reflected on the lessons that Lithuania learned during 20 years as a member of the United Nations.
