PEOPLE-CENTRED APPROACH IS A KEY TO INCLUSIVE AND THRIVING SOCIETY

12 February, 2014. „People-centred approach must be used as a guiding principle of social and economic development, seeking poverty eradication, social integration and full employment and decent work for all. Only applying human rights for all its members equally and without discrimination would create an inclusive and thriving society”, - said Mrs. Rita Kazragienė, Deputy Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations, delivering a statement in the 52nd Session of Commission for Social Development.

Lithuania’s representative stressed that Lithuania supports a clear separation of gender equality, empowerment of women and the marginalized, vulnerable groups. “In many instances, women are not a group of the society, rather its majority. The equality of women and men should remain a horizontal priority”, - said Mrs. Kazragienė. She further noted that policies for vulnerable groups should also be gender sensitive, gender mainstreamed taking into account specificities of the situation of women in these groups, such as disabled, elderly and others.
