UN FOCUSES ON RIGHTS AND DIGNITY OF OLDER PERSONS

The Fourth Session of the Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA) is taking place from 12 to 15 August 2013 at the United Nations in New York. Lithuania is represented by Mr. Tomas Milevičius from Family and Communities Department of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, who moderated interactive expert panel discussion on Promotion and protection of the human rights and dignity of older persons: contributions from the second global review and appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, 2002.

 

The Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing was established by the General Assembly by resolution 65/182 on 21 December 2010. It considers the existing international framework of the human rights of older persons and identify possible gaps and how best to address them, including by considering, as appropriate, the feasibility of further instruments and measures.
