High level discussion: Economic cost of violence against women

September 21, Wednesday, H.E. Ms. Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, together with H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria, President of the Republic of Chile, will be hosting a high level discussion on the economic cost of violence against women.

Around 2 percent of the GDP. That is an estimated cost of gender-based violence worldwide. The direct costs of the health and justice systems, child and welfare support, as well as indirect costs, such as lost wages, productivity and potential, are just a part of what societies pay for violence against women. The high level discussion will address the economic impact of violence against women and share good practices on how measures aimed at combating violence against women could result in reduction of public expenditures and allow their use for sustainable development.
